When it comes to healthy drinks, water is by far at the top of the list. The problem, however, is that tap water isn’t always free of toxins and chemicals when you drink it. The scientific journal Reviews of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology recently reported that an estimated 19.5 million people in the U.S. get sick each year due to drinking tainted tap water (NYTimes), and often times people don’t even realize that it’s water that’s making them sick. One way to solve this problem is through water filtration, so I decided to do a full review of the new Cuisinart CleanWater Countertop Filtration System (WCH-1500) to see if it’s worth looking into. Here are my results…

  • The Cuisinart CleanWater Countertop Filtration System (WCH-1500) features an attractive brushed stainless steel finish that makes it an attractive addition to any countertop. It was short enough to fit nicely on the countertop underneath my kitchen cabinets, so its relatively compact size is ideal for most homes or offices. One of the greatest features of the WCH-1500 is the fact that you can place it nearly anywhere – the basement, fitness room, dining room, etc – because it doesn’t need to be near a water source. The only requirement is that it be within reach of a standard wall outlet.

So right out of the box, I was impressed with the Cuisinart CleanWater Filtration System. It seems to be built solid, has an attractive finish, a large 2-gallon water capacity and the controls are easy to figure out. I’m also impressed with the lengthy 3-year limited warranty that accompanies the unit. There were two water filters included in the box – each of which has a 3 month lifespan – so that was also a welcomed addition.

Today marks the launch of our weekly blog post on a featured product, and this week, we have decided to highlight the Cuisinart CleanWater countertop filter. Filters Fast carries this water filter in both 1.5 and 2 gallon capacities. Like most , the unit sits directly on your counter, providing you with fresh, filtered water for drinking and cooking. However, unlike most countertop filters, these require no manual sink installation. The 1.5 gallon size dispenses both chilled and room temperature water, and the 2 gallon size dispenses hot water, as well. These filters also feature a curved design in the front, to facilitate the process of filling up coffee pots, pans, and , as well as LED lights to signal when the water has been heated or chilled to an optimal temperature. The lid of the water tank is a flip top for easy refilling, and the 12-week filter timer conveniently reminds you when it’s time for the filter to be changed.

  • The Cuisinart CleanWater Filtration System also has a smart energy saver switch located on the side of the unit which when turned on, reduces energy usage by about 50% by turning off the internal hot water heater. This is a great feature if you don’t need hot water from the system or you plan to be out of town for any length of time. When activated, a green light indicator is activated on the front of the unit to let you know that this feature is in operation.
